Team 2 day 30 (Claire)
Claire here. We woke up feeling so rested today, and SO excited for the continental breakfast included in our hotel stay :). I myself had waffles and an entire plate of scrambled eggs, then took more waffles and muffins to go of course. We the checked out and set off on our 73 mile day to Napoleon. We were happily surprised to find a bike path that took us from near the center of town to completely out of city limits, to some beautiful farmland just south of Bismarck. Apart from one tough hill in the very beginning, I'd go as far as to say that we may have had one of the most perfect mornings. We transitioned from bike path to BRAND NEW pavement with almost no cars. It felt like a dream. As if that weren't lovely enough, we were lucky enough to snag some tail winds in the afternoon, after stopping for lunch as a gas station/hardware store/restaurant/convenience store in Hazelton. We've grown quite fond of these types of establishments that are all too common out here. The afternoon consistented of 26 Miles in just under an hour and 45 min. Tail winds are magical. As we were not five miles out of town, we came up on a HUGE and unexpected lake! I definitely did not pay super close attention to the Google maps, thanks Rogan for being our navigator. It was especially surprising because we were amidst some smog from wildfires that made it hard to see very far in front of you. Suddenly, I was surrounded by enormous bodies of water on both sides. It was astounding. Before we knew it we were in Napoleon, and set up camp in the cutest city park complete with an awesome playground (no worries - I tested it out), a pool, showers and pavillons!! We just cooked dinner under one of the pavilions and might go for a dip in the pool now. Signing off!
