Team 2 day 29 (Maura)
Today is finally our rest day!!! Lord knows we needed it- its been 2 weeks since our last. We treated ourselves to a hotel in Bismark, where I woke up to breakfast in bed because I slept through the continental breakfast. Fortunately my teammates are the best and brought me waffles! We watched some Hallmark movie on the hotel TV and I’m pretty sure I went back to sleep after. I took this rest day very seriously. It was then when Olivia casually mentioned she was popping into urgent care across the street to get a spider bite checked out. She came back an hour later with wide eyes and some news. The spider bite on her arm was actually MRSA. Yup, we didn’t expect that curveball either. She is thankfully doing better now, with the area healing due to a pretty heavy course of antibiotics. But she is a tough one!! After we all panicked, we went to urgent care as well to get checked out and were cleared by the doc. We threw everything we owned into the wash, sanitized the rooms, and ran some other errands all while trying to reason where she may have picked up this infection. We also bought a healing stone from a kiosk at the mall just incase the antibiotics weren’t strong enough. At this point we were getting hungry, so we made our way to McDonalds and tried to get free fries because Instagram told us it was free fry day. But the 17 year old working the register apparently hadn’t heard the news and sadly turned us away. Finally, at the end of this crazy day, we all went to the movies. This was lovely treat and made us feel like we were almost back at home having a normal summer, just for a second. Rogan got the largest popcorn I’ve ever seen which came in an actual bucket that he marched around with proudly. The movie was pretty funny, and after we walked back to our nice white fluffy sheets for our last night at the quality inn. Although this rest day was not what we expected, we are so thankful that Olivia is doing better and in generally good health, that no one else was infected, and that we were in an area with accessible medical care. With that, we are ready to get back on the bikes tomorrow and will be definitely listening to our bodies for the next few days!
