Team 2 Day 16 (Claire)
4AM. That was the time our alarm was set to wake up in order to ride Logan's pass. We were staying three miles outside of town, and had 30 miles on top of that before we would reach the towering 6,646 ft pass. Not only that, we had to make it to the top before 11am, as bicycles are not allowed on the road after that (smh). Miraculously, after many breathtaking mountain views and valleys, lots of energy chews, and some of the most supportive fellow cyclists and even vehicle goers, we made it to the top. One guy even gave us $20 to contribute to our lunch cause he thought what we were doing was so cool. And the good vibes do not stop there. We rolled up to the St. Mary hiker/biker tentsite only to find some of the coolest and kindest fellow cyclists already set up. We met and made friends with a lovely nomadic couple who has been on the road for nearly 700 days, a super fun newly minted counselor from Bend who is taking a bike touring trip before her new job starts, and some awesome through hikers who not only hiked 22 miles today, but saw six grizzlies in the process. After exploring the small town we are near and getting some much needed ice cream (and a nice lunch thanks to that guy we met on Logan's pass!), the evening passed sharing stories and learning about each other's interesting lives.
Maura and I missed the other half of group 2, who opted for an alternate route around glacier (we will meet back up again tomorrow), and can't wait to be back with our crew, though this day was certainly one I'll never forget.
