Team 1 Day 7 (Keelin)

I’ll start you off with a little foreshadowing… no days can be easy for the three of us!!

The morning started off so amazing with scrambled eggs and sourdough pancakes made by our warm shower host in Republic. Such a great experience!!!! The hosts were pharmacists and one of the local doctors came over for breakfast as well. Great conversations ! We hit the road at about 8:30 (a little behind the scheduled programming for the day but hey, we’re being flexible). Our approach to Sherman Pass was much more successful than Washington!! We met up as a group every few miles and kept everyone together and spirits high (the lack of rain also may have helped a little bit haha). We paused at the top for an extended lunch break before descending into Kettle Falls. Not much happening there- we pedaled through the whole town in about 2 miles. A few miles down the road we ended up in Colville where we stopped at the grocery store and picked up some tortellini and pesto because our warm shower host for tonight, The Bacon Biker Hostel has a full kitchen. Little did we know (I guess Kayla and Liz did know since they look at the daily routes in the morning while I putts around) the whole ride from town to the hostel was uphill. The rose of the day was passing some cute sheep and goats and stopping to say hi! We got to the hostel just in time for the hostel manager (a very fragile 80 year old man named Ron) to let us in and for us to make dinner before the thunderstorms rolled in! Thank goodness we were in shelter, but then the power went out….Only 2 out of the 3 of us got a proper shower!!!! Gave us a little bit of a spooky vibe but i’m writing this the next morning so we’re all okay (Mom if you’re reading this- that was just a joke!) So I guess the takeaway message is that there’s always going to be some bumps along the way. Regardless we had beds to sleep in a second night in a row and if that isn’t amazing on a trip like this, I’m not sure what is!!! Power came back at about 1 am and we were able to charge all of our devices and get some more sleep. Fingers crossed all the storm has passed.
