Team 1 Day 10 (Keelin)

 Day 10:

Today we took a rest day in Sandpoint, Idaho and stayed at a hosts house using warmshowers.

The world was our oyster !!! We decided to sleep in, which felt a bit odd to me since I am used to the sunrise peeking into my tent as my wake up call. When I woke up, Liz had lived a thousand lives already (walked down the road, talked to people on the phone, meditated, had coffee- she’s a morning superwoman!!!) and Kayla was scanning the maps of the Northern Tier Trail. We got to sit outside on the warmshower host’s deck, which was a stunning outdoor space with a hot tub and a little garden waterfall. The hosts were on their morning bike ride which just felt so wholesome. We finally made our way into town on foot for big fat diner breakfast.. where we all ordered virtually the same thing (mine just being the meat version). We walked around the main part of town and ran some errands. When we got back to the house everyone was resting and we set our tents up in the yard to dry. Eventually, we headed back out to the town center (1 mile away) to get more sealant put in my tires because I had had a puncture a few days back (I have tubeless tires so the sealant covers it). While my bike was being fixed, we stumbled upon an art walk! We had a blast picking at all the snacks and seeing all the local vendors displaying their art. We got the best ice cream around and stopped by the beach of Lake Pend Orielle where there was a check in station for the charity cycling race that was happening the next day. Maybe it was Kayla and Liz’s sun burns that gave us away but everyone asked if we were participating. It was funny to find out we will be biking in the very opposite direction as the race tomorrow !!! That was basically the end of our town adventures, we got Mexican food for dinner but that was nothing to write home about so i’ll leave it out. To end the night, the hosts, Steve and Judy, drove us up to the top of Schweitzer Ski Mountain for a great view of the lake and the town. It was stunning!!!! We all yawned all the way home and fell asleep the moment our heads hit the pillow. I’d say it was a successful rest day, and I think it was a pleasant surprise for what we all expected from Idaho.
