Team 1 Day 2 (Liz)

We woke up to perfect weather for our ride from Rockport to Diablo, WA. We felt stiff and sore as we got back on our bikes, but we quickly felt better as we winded through beautiful quiet roads. Our navigation took us through the valley along the Skagit River while jagged, snowcapped mountains towered above us.  Our lunch break was at the North Cascades Visitor Center where we ran into 3 other people biking coast to coast. While there, we also realized how difficult it is to eat multiple peanut butter tortilla roll ups. (We’ve been working hard to get enough calories during the day.) The Newhalem General Store had ice cream so we just had to stop and get some. Then, we coasted around the windy Ross Lake and finished the day with two of our first big climbs of the trip! When we got to the Colonial Creek Campground, I was ready for a cold plunge in Diablo Lake. Who needs ice packs when you have snow melt fed lakes? I even got Kayla and Keelin to join me. Our campsite was tucked into the trees and we spent the rest of the day sitting in the lake, making dinner, and prepping for our big day 3.
